Design - European Standards

Design of concrete structures is dealt with in Eurocode 2 (EN 1992 Design of concrete structures). The various parts are given below. The designation BS EN indicates that the document has been publiished by BSI.

BS EN 1992-1-1: Common rules for buildings and civil engineering structures (Published January 2005)
BS EN 1992-1-2: General rules - Structural fire design (Published February 2005)
EN 1992-2: Bridges (Published 2005)
EN 1992-3: Liquid retaining and containing structures (published 2006)

On 30 November 2023, 2nd generation Eurocodes were published. Importantly, both ´bridges´ and ´liquid retaining and containment structures´ are now covered by BS EN 1992-1-1:2023 Design of concrete structures. General rules and rules for buildings bridges and civil engineering structures. Fire is in BS EN 1992-1-2:2023 Design of concrete structures. General rules - structural fire design. In the UK, these 2nd generation codes should not be used until the National Annexes have been published, expected 2024. They will co-exist with the previous editions until withdrawn in 2028.
