Ready-mixed concrete is batched at an off site plant and transported to site. In about 90% of cases individual components are loaded at the plant and the concrete is mixed in the truck. In the remainder the concrete is fully mixed at the plant and the truck simply transports it. The most common size of truck can carry 6 m3 of concrete. Smaller sizes (2 and 4 m3 ) are also used. On arrival at site the concrete is discharged in a controlled manner down a chute that extends approximately 2.7 m from the back of the vehicle. Thus, within limits, the concrete can be placed directly where it is needed. |
