The process of designing concrete structures to recognised Standards, codes and regulations will ensure that they are structurally safe, i.e. they have an adequate margin of safety against failure. Similarly, health and safety regulations cover the safety of operatives during construction and thereby their health.
Concrete is inert and does not release any substance that is harmful to the occupants of buildings. However, some measures are taken where it is in contact with drinking water.
