Designed and Detailed

Designed and Detailed has been one of the standard publications giving guidance on the design of a reinforced concrete framed structure since it was first published by the Cement and Concrete Association in 1973. It is particularly popular with university students and young graduate engineers as it presents the design in a simple, straightforward manner. Following the change to Eurocodes, it has been completely redrafted to bring it into line with the new requirements, but working closely to the style of the earlier versions.

The purpose of Designed and Detailed – Eurocode 2 is to show how to apply the principles of limit state design in Eurocode 2 by means of a simple worked example of a reinforced concrete frame building. The example has been chosen to include different structural elements (beams, slabs, columns, shear wall, staircase), rather than necessarily to indicate the most economic form of construction. The calculations and details are presented in a form suitable for design office purposes and are in accordance with current British Standards (and the UK National Annexes to the Eurocodes) and the recommendations contained in publications from The Concrete Society and The Concrete Centre. Some calculations with regard to detailing and curtailment (which would normally be the concern of the detailer) have been included for illustration purposes.

(Note that the earlier version of Designed and Detailed, which was based on the requirements of BS 8110, is still available.)
