Construction of prestressed concrete

In general the construction of prestressed concrete elements (either pre-tensioned or post-tensioned) will be the same as that for reinforced concrete.

Additional guidance will be required to cover certain aspects specific to prestressing, such as the specification for the grouting of post-tensioned tendons or the components in post-tensioned flat slabs. Reference should be made to TR 72, Durable post-tensioned concrete structures.

For additional information, and examples of applications, see fib (Federation International du Beton) Bulletin 31, Post-tensioning in buildings, February 2005.
