A range of different types of glass fibres is manufactured and used in a variety of applications. However, only alkali resistant glass fibres are suitable for use in concrete; the other types are attacked by the alkalis in the matrix. Short chopped fibres are used as reinforcement for glassfibre reinforced cement (GRC). They are used for a wide range of precast elements, from simple roof tiles and drainage pipes to large cladding panels and shells. For further information see main heading Concrete/Concrete types.
