Precast Buildings
All the structural components (columns, beams, slabs, walls, cladding) for use in industrial and commercial buildings, car parks, domestic buildings and other applications, are available from a number of manufacturers.
Various types of precast concrete floor slabs that may be used with concrete or steel supporting beams are available. Cross-sections range from solid slabs through hollow core floor planks to double tees. Choice of the appropriate type of unit will depend on the loading and the span.
Generally a limited amount of in situ concrete is used to form the connections between the units making up the building. An alternative approach is ‘hybrid’ construction, in which certain precast units are combined with more extensive in situ concrete work (for example precast columns with in situ floors).
