Precast bridge beams are widely used in the construction of a variety of forms of concrete bridges. In addition to bridge beams, precast concrete footbridges and sign gantries are offered by some manufacturers.
A recent development has been curved segments for the construction of arch bridges. The Concrete Bridge Development Group has published Technical Guide No. 12, Precast concrete arch structures: A state-of-the-art report, which provides guidance on good practice based on the experience of the industry suppliers.
A specialised form of precast concrete is the use of for segmental bridge units, which are cast in purpose-built facilities on site rather than in conventional precasting plants.
