Overloading of a slab in punching will lead to cracks forming on the tensile surface of the slab, radiating out from the column. These may be joined to a series of circumferential cracks, located at a distance from the column equal to about three-times the slab thickness. There may be some crushing of the concrete on the underside of the slab at the junction with the column.
