BS 5838 - Dry prepacked concrete
BS 5838 - Dry prepacked concrete - Specification is a British Standard and was first published in 1980 in two parts with BS 5838-1 for prepacked concrete & cementitious mixes and BS 5838-2 for prepacked mortar mixes. The 2022 revision is one part and references current British and European Standards. It clarifies the cement type whether in accordance with BS 8500-2 or not, and also provides recommendations for production control.
Although it references the compressive strength class to BS EN 206 i.e. C32/40, the method of assessment differs from conformity or identity testing and is provided in Table 1. Strength testing is carried out with cubes with result from an average of 3 specimens.
The consistence shall be measured by a slump test and the declared water content on the bag is typically based on target S2 consistence class tolerance unless otherwise stated.
