The Concrete Society Yorkshire and Humberside Region, in conjunction with the Yorkshire Region of the Institution of Structural Engineers, presents a seminar on Construction of the Hoover Dam: ‘Challenges and Challenges Met’
The construction of the Hoover Dam was one of the most challenging construction projects in the world during the 1930s. The extreme temperatures, difficult soil conditions, lack of access to the construction site and construction in poor economic time were the major challenges. Many new techniques of concrete constructions that we use today were developed or improved during its construction. The construction of Hoover Dam tamed a river, provided irrigation and electricity to the southwest USA and created an economic boom for the area.
