The use of Fly ash and GGBS as supplementary cement materials is well established, but face longer term supply challenges, whilst the use of silica fume is generally limited to ultra high performance concrete applications on economic grounds. The emergence of calcined clay pozzolans and the development of banahMETA in particular, potentially represent the next generation of cost effective supplementary material for use in the UK and Ireland concrete industry, offering:
- Improved resistance to chloride ingress.
- Increased abrasive resistance.
- Accelerated early strength gain.
- Increased 28 day strength.
