Consistence Retention vs Retardation - What´s the difference?

The Concrete Society - London & South East Region region
18/10/2017
The Buiding Centre, 25 Store Street, Bloomsbury, London, WC1E 7BT

Summary

The Concrete Society – London & South East Region are holding an early-evening technical meeting to offer guidance in the often misunderstood requirements of consistence retention and retardation. These two facets of modern concrete technology are not the same and there are subtle differences between what the two mean to a concrete.

With an increase in the requirements for concretes with consistence retention requirements of typically up to four hours and for them to then behave as conventional concrete in the setting and hardening phase, many RC frame and Piling contractors are specifying such properties, whilst to the vast majority of concrete users, the mistake is to believe retention and retardation are the same.

The event will offer two presentations on the subject, the first from the point of view of the admixture supplier, and we are pleased to say this will be by Mr Ian Ellis, of BASF. Our second presentation will be from the viewpoint of the concrete supplier, and we are pleased to say this will be by Mr Jasen Gauld, of London Concrete.
